Here are a handful of pages from this month’s edition of the Voice Magazine. 27,000 copies are distributed each month, the free publication covers everything from local news right through celebrity interviews.
Eating Out Wales is a guide to some of the best the area has to offer. From fine-dining establishments to venues serving up modern European cuisine and traditional Welsh fare, here is a comprehensive guide, which accommodates every budget, taste and requirement. You’ll see a 100 page A5 magazine I recently designed. It was put together using Adobe Indesign CS2, Photoshop CS2. The only difficulty I had was browsing the pictures on an empty stomach. I think you’ll agree they are all mouthwatering.
These were the initial designs submitted to Newport council for their Christmas Campaign. They loved the initial design and with a quick title change to Discover Your Newport the concept became the entire Christmas campaign. This included the design of bus sides, street banners, posters and advertisements for many different publications.
To quote 80′s boy band Bros “When will I will I be famous? When will I see my picture in the paper?” Well I can now answer that question and say I saw my picture in the Voice Magazine on July 2010. With the TJ’s in the square event which was taking place after our print deadline, we needed to come up with a cover that created the impression of a festival atmosphere and people coming together for the love of music. This meant working closely with our photographer and design team, by using an image of a stage, clouds and a massive crowd I was able to bring life to this artwork. Voice also covers many other features, here are a few examples; a product page on the latest in celeb fashion/endorsements, a camping article, plugging local retailers and finally Cineworld encouraged us to put together editorial for them in there current image / branding.
Holy Transylvania the design for this halloween flyer was based on the 1960′s television show The Munsters.
A clean contemporary summer flyer that captures the outdoor beer garden spirit (not spirit as in the drink).
Illustrating the front cover is the most important part of the magazine, its the difference between a person picking it up or walking straight past. With the Mark Ronson album just being released and the festival season in full swing, it was really important we capture those elements with bright colours fun cover. The theme from the cover was then carried over to the page design.
Aspire/Alt – I was given a great opportunity to create two publications for the University of Wales, Newport. The first was Aspire, a publication aimed at postgraduate students. The idea was to strip everything back and deliver them the essentials. We did this by creating case studies, real life examples of students that told their stories about how everything was made possible & how sometimes the idea of something can be a lot more daunting that the thing itself. The second publication was aimed at undergraduates. This approach had to be less clean cut, and more off the way – lots of life, colour and useful tips and treats.
